Abstract : Polycrystalline vanadate garnets of the type Bi(3-x)Ca(2x)V(x)Fe(5-x)O(12) where 1.30 < or = x < or = 1.40 were produced by conventional ceramic processing and firing techniques. Microwave properties and hysteresis loop data were generated on all materials and some preliminary correlations of properties with microstructure have been attempted. Single crystals of Calvanbig in the same composition range were grown by the flux technique. Information on composition obtained from the electron microprobe and FMR linewidth (Delta H = 1.5 Oe) X-band indicate the single crystals are chemically homogeneous and of good quality. (Author)
