Abstract : The report discusses a technique for testing the stress-rupture strength of fir-tree type root joints of turbine blades at elevated temperatures under persistent loads. The results are given for tests at 750 and 830 deg C on experimental joints under loads applied for a period of 500 hr. Disk teeth shearing in the joint is found to be the most frequent cause of breakdown under these conditions. Recommendations are made as to how this type of breakdown could be minimized.
