Abstract : The use of the attenuated total reflection method for obtaining IR spectra of thin surface layers of plastic articles is described. The differences in spectra obtained from the surface layer and from whole articles are illustrated by comparison of spectra obtained with rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer, mirathen 1313, and poly(vinyl chloride)-acrylic acid graft copolymer.
