Abstract : The report gives a calculation of the vertical profiles of long wave components of the total radiation balance. Temperature stratification is shown to have a considerable effect on the ascending long wave flux. In summer months the discrepancy between the measured and calculated fluxes in the case of rising fluxes is found to amount to 10 percent, while in the case of descending fluxes the discrepancy is considerably greater and varies greatly with height. Temperature changes occurring in various layers of the troposphere due to long wave radiation are described. (Author)
