Abstract : The author considers a two-dimensional shock wave of arbitrary intensity propagating through a medium at rest and bounded, in the case of an immobile wedge, by a wall turned at a certain point through a small angle. He shows how to overcome the difficulties encountered by earlier investigators of the aerodynamics of blasts. In particular, he shows how to employ the method of Lighthill (1949) to obtain analytic formulas for the pressure at the wall and at discontinuities (e.g., wedge-shaped notches or slants). The author also considers the case of a mobile wedge, moving with supersonic velocity velocity and non-zero angle of attack against a shock wave. (Author)
