Abstract : Measurements were made on 70% N2/30% CO2 and 84% N2/16% CO2 mixtures at room temperature and at 600K. The most important result was an accurate determination of the V-T transition rates for CO2/N2 collisions and of the relative efficiency of CO2 and N2 for this V-T process. Information was also acquired in regard to the rate of energy transfer into and out of the asymmetric stretching mode of the CO2 molecule and of the resonant exchange rate between the asymmetric stretching mode of carbon dioxide and the first excited level of nitrogen (v=1). Finally a brief report discusses acoustic absorption to extract the rate of energy transfer between the vibration of the bending mode of CO2 and the O2 vibration and the rate at which O2 deexcites the bending mode of CO2 in a v-t process.
