Abstract : The St. Francis River Basin Project is concerned with flood protection and major drainage improvements in the Little River basin and along the lower St. Francis River (below Wappapello Dam, Missouri). Construction of a pumping station, floodgates, and a fuseplug levee near Haleside, Arkansas, is included within that portion of the overall project which is concerned with the lower St. Francis River between the Poinsett-Cross County line (Arkansas) and the Mississippi west bank levee about 5 miles southwest of Whitehall, Arkansas. The proposed pumping station will dispose of drainage water impounded in the lower end of the basin during high backwater stages on the St. Francis River. Preliminary investigations indicated that the pumping station whould have a capacity of approximately 12,000 cfs. The results of geologic studies made to assist in selection of a specific site for the Haleside Pumping Station and floodgates are presented in this memorandum.
