Abstract : It has been known for some time that low molecular weight compounds with a long hydrocarbon chain and polar end (e.g. stearic acid) reduce friction between solid surfaces, and this friction reduction is attributed to the orientation of an adsorbed layer of compound on the surface. Test were conducted to observe the effect of the alkyl chain group on the lubricating properties of polymethacrylate.
