Abstract : A method of measuring sticking coefficients on solid substrates at 20 to 1500C and pressures of 0.000001 to 0.00001 torr is presented. Measurements with this method show that the sticking coefficients of silver on substrates of quartz, Pyrex, silver, copper and iron at 20C do not depend entirely upon the substrate composition but are influenced by absorbed contaminants; water probabily having the greatest influence. The sticking coefficients of silver on pure metals, i.e., iron, silver and copper, decrease with increasing substrate temperature but not as rapidly as the sticking coefficient of silver on silicon dioxide.
