Abstract : In a previous Air Force program, method were developed for fabricating titanium tee shapes by high-frequency resistance welding. In the current program, these methods were refined and butt sections and tee sections were fabricated from 0.050, 0.090, and 0.125-inch-thick Ti-6Al-4V strips. The fabrication of multiple-stiffened sections also was demonstrated to be feasible. The tee sections were machined after welding to form fillets of various radii between the stem and flange of the tee section. The static and fatigue properties of the butt and tee sections were evaluated and compared with extruded Ti-6Al-4V tee sections and 7075-T6511 aluminum tee sections. (Author)
