Abstract : The document contains a compilation of papers presented at a technical symposium dedicated to advancing the state-of-the-art in multi-access computing systems. This symposium, co-sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and System Development Corporation, was held in Santa Monica, California, in November 1971. The papers seek to present the requirements to be imposed on multi-access computing: timesharing, real-time, and remote batch, and include current research. Their purpose is to improve the communication between the researcher and the user. Their focus is primarily on military applications but most of the material is equally useful for industrial purposes. Several papers specifically address consumer and commercial applications.
