Abstract : Studies of the 2.3 to 18 micron infrared radiation from the planet Mercury and the 2.3 to 8.6 micron infrared radiation from the Moon are presented in this thesis. Experimental results are compared with predictions based on a smooth spherical black body model and it is found that neither object radiates like the model and, although they are not identical, Mercury and the Moon are quite similar.
