Abstract : A study was conducted of the current Major Item Management System (MIMS). The study's purpose was to provide the Army with documentation reflecting a synthesis of the Army's major item management subsystems as they exist today. This documentation relies primarily on general logic diagrams (flow charts) to reveal the interrelations of major processes, systems, and procedures of major item management. In order to provide added depth to the flow chart presentation and to clarify the brief wording on the flow charts, descriptive text accompanies each of the flow charts in this report. In addition, throughout the text references are included to indicate the primary information sources. The results of this effort will (a) provide the Army with a sound basis for the evaluation of proposed improvements to the current major item management process and (b) serve as a needed educational tool and useful reference document for managers.
