Abstract : TIONS OF TROPICAL RAINFALL IS GIVEN. The rainstorms of Panama and Colombia are studied as to size and time of day. The size (amount of rain) is about the same at all places, but the time of occurrence is different at the different locations. The introduction of conditional probability (dry day following a dry day) leads to a simple method of calculating dry spells. Maps of the conditional probability are given for each month for Cambodia, and an explanation and example of the method is supplied. Rainfall patterns are studied for 15 stations in the Mekong Delta of Southeast Asia. Daily data were grouped into 5-day (pentad) totals. The beginning and end of the rainy season is identified by testing for significant differences between medians of consecutive pentads and computing the average rate of change in rainfall between pentads. Average dates for the beginning and end of the rainy season were determined and depicted on maps. (Author)
