Abstract : A recently developed photoionization technique for detection of vibrationally-excited nitrogen (N2*) has been applied to study of the quenching of N2* by O at 300 K. The rate coefficient for quenching of N2* by O was found. The efficient vibrational relaxation previously observed in the N2* - O system in shock tubes at high temperatures and attributed to a chemical interaction persists at low temperatures. (Author)
