Abstract : The major focus of the study was the relationship between the exchange of short-term social reinforcement in distressed and nondistressed marrieds as they interacted in a laboratory setting with own spouse, and the spouse of a stranger. Specifically, it was held that the exchange of positive or aversive consequences was more a matter of situational determinants than of trait-like determinants. (Author)
