Abstract : An automated air sampling system has been developed that can be used in any transportation vehicle to monitor local air quality. This system is particularly useful for a concept to obtain worldwide profiles of air quality, for example, using commercial airliners. The system consists of a controller module and modular collection and storage units, each containing five 5-liter inflatable bags. Automatic inflation of any one aluminum-coated mylar or teflon bag of an installed system can be programmed for any portion of a 24-hour period. Operational characteristics of the equipment and the technique are given to show its suitability for the proposed applications. The report briefly describes the operation of this system.
