Abstract : The adhesion forces in cutting metals are the basic cause of high friction coefficients and of departure from the classical laws of friction. The formation and destruction of adhesive connections induces the wear of the cutting tool. The adhesion is one of the basic sources of the formation of the roughness of treated surfaces. Information about the tangential force of adhesion and the actual contact area on the front surface of the cutter are provided. It is determined that the adhesive force monotonically decreases in proportion to the withdrawal of the contact area from the cutting edge. (Author)
