Abstract : The program was designed to evaluate the feasibility of making in-situ propellant mechanical properties measurements, then to develop the instrumentation and telemetry necessary to transmit the data out of the grain to a receiver. At the conclusion of this Air Force sponsored program ASPC had in operation eight in-situ, wireless telemetry units. Three of the units had been successfully cast into large blocks of propellant. These units had an active sensor, called a Duomorph, that can operate dynamically over the range from 5 to 5000 hz. The Duomorph sensor and the telemetry units were developed after an extensive literature survey indicated that telemetry through propellant was both feasible and safe, and dynamic deformations of an active sensor are the most convenient designs for remote telemetric control.
