Abstract : Lubricating oil with improved cold behavior for axle friction bearings used in railroad cars consisted of 15-30 parts extraction residue from propane deasphalting of petroleum and 85-70 parts normal, dewaxed petroleum distillates or extracts of B. P. 300-500 degrees. For example, a compound of 70 parts dewaxed lubricating oil distillate (300-400 degrees, stiffening point -17C) and 30 parts extracted from propane deasphalting (softening point 70C) gave a stiffening point -33C and flow temperature of -22C.
