Abstract : A theoretical analysis is given for the instability of a system with bounded or unbounded upper and lower fluids, with a particulate in each fluid which can be droplets, particles, or bubbles. The volume fraction and velocity index of the particulate in each fluid are introduced, and the appropriate dimensionless parameters are used to describe the system. The mathematical formulation is cast in the form of a linear, normal mode, stability analysis. The resulting differential equations and boundary conditions are solved, and characteristic equations result. (Author)
