Abstract : One of the features of the action of the common radioprotective substances is that their maximum radioprotective effect depends on intravenous or intraperitoneal administration. The oral administration of these substances leads, as a rule, to a reduction of their protective properties. In this connection a detailed study of the effect of radioprotective preparations on gastrointestinal function in healthy and irradiated animals is of importance. In this work the experimental findings of a comparative study of the action of some of the more effective radioprotective preparations on the motor and evacuator function of the gastrointestinal tract in healthy and irradiated rats are presented. The radioprotective agents studied were cystamine, cystafos, AET, and meksamin.
