Abstract : For cycling below the yield point the situation is similar as for bcc metals. The dislocations in the annealed metal are pinned by interstitial atoms. The plastic deformation has to be accomplished by only a few dislocations, moving with high velocity. With increasing cycling new dislocations are created or dislocations are unlocked from their pinning points. Contrary to the bcc metals, work softening is also observed if the yield elongation is exceeded in the first cycle. This implies that during the further cycles there is an additional increase in the density of mobile dislocations.
