Abstract : The report reviews a project which has attempted to indicate that the information of primary interest to combustion engineers can be extracted readily by exploiting physical insight confirmed by singular-perturbation analysis. The report only summarizes and lists the author's publication. The tractability of flows involving convection, diffusion, and finite-rate chemical reaction to rapid, approximate analysis by modern asymptotic methods has been demonstrated through solution of a variety of engineering problems. Problems treated involved both detonations and deflagrations, free and forced convection, laminar and turbulent flows, premixed and unpremixed flames, and a variety of flow geometries.
