Abstract : The evaporation and outgassing of materials in vacuum and the sorption of vapours on surfaces may yield severe degradation effects of the functional properties of spacecraft. After referring to a number of materials as potential contamination sources in spacecraft transportation and sorption phenomena are discussed. The comments are partially based on new measurements, especially on the outgassing of plastics, coatings and bearings in vacuum and the sorption of vapours on special surfaces as well. (Author)
