Abstract : The following results are noted: The ratio of the quantity of volatilized electrode metal to the quantity of the fused metal increases with increasing current and arcing time; Increasing the heat conductivity and oxidizing potential of the shielding gas increases the volatilization intensity; The quantity of volatilized and oxidized metal increases with increasing gas consumption; The bulk of losses of electrode metal constituents is due to volatilization.
