Abstract : Five different types of combustion experiments were carried out: conditioning temperature experiments, experiments to show the effects of external thermal radiation, measurements of steady flame temperature, experiments to determine the L*-stability limit, and T-Burner experiments. Propellant samples from one particular lot of the Naval Weapons Center formulation A-13 were subjected to all five types of experiments. In addition, the three different formulations were subjected to the thermal radiation tests. An attempt was then made to correlate the experimental data with the predictions of a simplified theoretical model. The theoretical model was found to satisfactorily correlate the effects of variations in conditioning temperature and thermal radiation using a value for the gas phase activation energy, Eg, of 45 Kcal/mole, provided that the variation of the flame temperature with pressure was adequately accounted for.
