Abstract : A detailed study was made of the electromagnetic response of magnetic semiconductors and composite magnetic and semiconducting structures in terms of the collective modes supported in these systems, which are mainly spin waves and carrier waves. These interactions have been studied in the linear regime and in the non-linear regime. The linear regime determines the small signal response of the systems while the non-linear regime is of interest in parametric effects. Measurements of the conductivity and magneto-resistance were made on single crystal Ag(x)Cd(1-x)Cr2Se4 (x = 0.045) for the case of an external constant magnetic field parallel to the conduction current. The measurements were made as a function of temperature, magnetic field strength, and electric field strength. The propagation characteristics of surface spin waves in YIG have been measured at microwave frequencies as a function of frequency and external magnetic field. (Author)
