Abstract : A two-dimensional curve fitting technique is developed for analyzing data acquired by a single Doppler radar. The method provides measurements of the divergence and deformation fields and the combined effect of wind velocity and vorticity. The analysis method is tested on both artificial and real Doppler data. These tests indicate that the method can provide measurements of the differential kinematic properties of the wind field to an accuracy of better than plus or minus 0.5x10 to the minus 3 power/sec and probably approaching plus or minus 0.25 x 10 to the minus 3 power.
