Abstract : The paper describes an instrumentation permitting the delay in ignition, under a variety of conditions, to be established rapidly for hypergol rocket propellants. The instrumentation is based on the principle of two jets of fluid converging freely inside a combustion chamber. Time is measured by a cathode oscillograph. First, reasons for selecting the method of measurement are given, drawing explicitly attention to the elementary differences between the droplet-test and the two-jet method. Then, the parameters arising from instrumentation and affecting the delay of ignition are numerated and hence, conclusions drawn regarding the requirements for an instrumentation that can be expected to render possible the investigation of these effects on the ignition delay. Finally, the instrumentation for measuring ignition delay is described in detail.
