Abstract : Although the design of Tocks Island Dam was based on good hydraulic design practice, model analysis of its performance was desired because of the less than ideal approach channel conditions, the relatively high unit discharge (1412 cfs/ft), and the possibility of having a common stilling basin for spillway and outlet works releases. The model investigations were concerned particularly with flow conditions in the approach, near the abutments, and over the spillway chute; spillway capacity; hydraulic performance of the energy dissipator; height and geometry of training walls; and embankment protective stone requirements.
