Abstract : The report presents an approach which provides an explanation of the appearance of concentric ridges at some explosive test sites. This investigation showed that the gravity effect on ground motion was important only for media with very low rigidity. This and the local soil condition suggest that the soil at those test sites might have been liquefied during a short time just after an explosion. Based on this assumption, a mathematical model was formulated and the results were in good agreement with the data observed in the Prairie Flat test. (Author)
