Abstract : The resolving power of the simplest, small-scale, widely used camera tubes (e.g. the Vidicon) is still insufficient even to realize the possibilities of 625-line scanning, while for cosmic, holographic and many other investigations tubes are needed which have a considerably higher resolution. The known means for increasing the resolving power comprise increasing the size of the photo-cathode target and decreasing the current and area of the switching beam, with the introduction of secondary electronic amplification of the video-signal. All of this finally leads to a sharp and, in most cases, inadmissible increase in the size and mass of the camera tube. The present work examines the possibility of increasing the resolving power without increasing the tube dimensions.
