Abstract : Introducing light metals in organic fuels theoretically increases the performance of combustions obtained with appropriate oxidizers. The improvement of this energy is however reduced in fact by losses mainly due to the combustion chemical efficiency, and also to the propulsive efficiency affected by the two-hase flow. This paper describes a technique improving the chemical efficiency of aluminium combustion with nitric acid. Its procedure is to deposit on the metallic particle surface discrete elements of polytetrafluorethylene, these not realizing, however, too much of a thermal screen. The study evidences a notable improvement of the combustion within a definite and not very broad range of the aluminum/fluor mass-ratio. The hybrid combustion technique was chosen as it is easy in this case to introduce metals in the organic solid fuel. (Author)
