Abstract : Precipitations in a dry climate found in Valais, are very important for all human activities, but especially for farmers. The frequency of rainfalls below a certain limit indicates the necessity of irrigation. Irrigations bring each time a multiple of potential daily evaportranspiration. A weekly synopsis of the precipitations was carried out first, but the exact computation, however, was reached by 5 days. At that time it was also discovered that strong or frequent irrigations had the contrary effect during certain periods (especially in August). The distribution of the precipitations during a day's time had also an effect on the farmwork. During an hourly evaluation it was noticed that it rained less in day-than in night-time, but that the minimum risk varied according to a well defined seasonal curve. (Author)
