Abstract : AMPLIFIERS, GALLIUM ARSENIDES, INTEGRAL TRANSFORMSLITHIUM NIOBATES, *ACOUSTICS, *MICROWAVES, ACOUSTIC DELAY LINES, ACOUSTIC WAVES, SURFACE WAVES, ACOUSTIC EQUIPMENT, AMPLIFIERS, SIGNAL PROCESSING, SURFACE WAVES, FAST FOURIER TRANSFORMThe objectives of the contract are to advance new theory and device techniques for the generation and processing of microwave signals using elastic, electro-magnetic, and carrier space charge waves in solid media. The work is divided into three projects, as follows: bulk and surface acoustic wave amplifiers, axoustic parametric interactions, wide bandwidth dispersive delay lines. Significant results include broadband efficient excitation in an amplifier with net gain; a new convolution device with 30 db greater interaction strength than with lithium niobate; and a bulk wave device for convolution/correlation, time reversal, and Fast Fourier transform of arbitrary signsls. Work on wide bandwidth dispersive delay lines has led to the achievement of lines with near octave bandwidth, centered at 200 MHz, and linear dispersion characteristics. (Author)
