Abstract : The program is directed toward an improved understanding of the sources and the energization, transport, and loss processes associated with the low-energy (keV) plasmas in the earth's magnetosphere, particularly as they relate to ionospheric perturbations and to ionospheric-magnetospheric coupling. A low-energy particle experiment is planned for flight on a polar-orbiting Air Force Satellite, and the principal efforts to date have been on modifications to the initial experiment to take into account new data on the magnetospheric plasma composition and on defining the experiment interfaces with the spacecraft in conjunction with the spacecraft Integrating Contractor and the Air Force.
