Abstract : Acoustic emission has been monitored during the ambient temperature tensile deformation of directionally solidified Al-CuAl2. Attention was directed to the effect of microstructure in that a range of structures was examined ranging from lamellar to spheroidized; coarsening was promoted by elevated temperature exposure at temperatures up to 0.98T (eutectic) for times up to 100 hours (360 ks).
