Abstract : The Sixth Symposium took place in two parts: the first in June and July 1970, and the second - concerned with problems of health, molecular evolution, and pollution - in spring and summer 1971. More than 125 authorities representing almost all schools of thought have contributed to the Proceedings of the first part of the Symposium. Their papers, comprising Volumes 1,2, and 3, constitute the broadest available coverage of current research in mathematical statistics and probability. Volume 3 contains discussions of passage problems, Markov processes-potential theory, Markov processes-trajectories-functionals, point processes-branching processes, and information and control.
