Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to correlate the available cavitation data on surface irregularities in an effort to predict the actual cavitation performance of surfaces encountered in the field. In so doing, the various field irregularities were modeled by the idealized roughness elements studied in the laboratory. A review of the available experimental results revealed a lack of data on isolated depressions, so tests were conducted in a water tunnel to determine the cavitation characteristics of isolated slots, thus providing the data necessary to model at least one type of depression occurring in the field.
