Abstract : A general method is developed for finding near-optimal codes for multiple pulse repetition frequency (PRF) radars. When frequency littering is used with pulsed radars to remove ground clutter, a number of velocity blind zones are produced that may prevent the detection of desired signals. Some of these doppler-frequency blind zones can be removed by using multiple PRFs or multiple transmitter frequencies at the expense of transmitter power. When this is done, it is important to choose optimum PRF or frequency codes in order to reduce the power loss. The report derives codes (combinations of frequencies) that maximize radar performance when dead zones are removed in this way. (Author)
