Abstract : The effect of thermomechanical treatment on the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of Beta III (Ti-11.5Mo-6Zr-4.5Sn) alloy was investigated. Specimens of the alloy were cold worked 0, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50% and precipitation hardened prior to fabrication into tensile test specimens. Five specimens of each thermomechanical treatment condition were tensile tested in order to obtain yield strengths. The remaining specimens were exposed to an alternate wet/dry environment of 3.5 w/o NaCl solution at ambient temperature under a load of 80% of yield. (Author Modified Abstract)
