Abstract : The development of fluorescent pigments has caused an accentuation of interest in the role of chromatic contrasts in outdoor visibility problems, as the visibility of these pigments appears to be influenced significantly by their chromaticity. The report describes experimental studies designed to reveal the influence of chromaticity on visibility for samples which include fluorescent pigments. Emphasis is placed upon the method used to determine the significance of chromaticity per se., which should prove to be thoroughly general in its applicability to visibility problems involving objects differing in chroma from the backgrounds against which they are viewed.
