Two cases are considered: first, the signal is reflected by a tilted plane, representing the boundary of the ionosphere; second, the signal is reflected by a sinusoidal surface. The parameters describing either of these surfaces are assumed to have been determined by ionospheric probes and the direction of the reflected signal is assumed to have been determined by direction finding techniques.
