Abstract : Techniques have been developed in the aerophysics ballistic range for impacting test specimens which discrete liquid and solid particles. The specimens were tested by NDT methods for detailed examination. Definite and repeatable thresholds of damage have been observed in slip-cast fused silica soak impregnated with a silicon varnish and other materials with variation in velocity of impact and drop tests. The results indicate that the continuing need for controlled discrete impact data of this type of supplement erosion data and to characterize damage in new materials. Results are presented for drop sizes of approximately 1mm and 2mm for a range of velocities from subsonic to 4000 feet/sec. (Author, modified-PL)
