Abstract : The purpose of this paper is to discuss operating system design for small micro-programmed multi-processing systems. Involved is the development of a general purpose operating system for the support of a variety of applications on a graphics satellite attached to the Brown University S360/67. A multi-level operating system has been developed that supports an unlimited number of parallel tasks. The main interface between the levels of this system and the user is the Event Table which provides a logical extension of the hardware interrupt mechanism to higher levels of the system. A form of virtual memory support will be provided by a combination of operating system support and programming conventions that allows for the dynamic relocation of programs and data.
