Abstract : Sensitivity studies have indicated that representative neutron and secondary gamma-ray energy and angle distributions can be used for structure shielding analysis thereby eliminating the need for extensive transport calculations using many sources. A review of recent data and some new transport studies has shown that the radiation distributions are only weakly affected by differences in similar source spectra as well as the air/ground interface after transport through sufficient air. Representative neutron and gamma-ray distributions have been computed at a range of 1200 meters in infinite air from an intermediate yield thermonuclear weapon. Given are normalized, rotated distributions relative to the normals of the four walls and the roof of structures assuming a detonation 30 degrees above the horizon. Also given are averaged distributions which can be used as ring or halo sources if the direction of detonation is not known. (Modified author abstract)
