Abstract : The buckling of a partially debonded two layered cylindrical shell subjected to axial compression is investigated. The debonding is considered to be axisymmetric. A 'branched integration' technique is employed to solve the problem numerically. Critical loads are obtained for different lengths of debonding and inner and outer layer thickness ratios. It is observed that there is a significant decrease in the buckling loads. The mode shapes for different layer thicknesses indicate a distinct pattern in each of the debonded layers. However, for certain values of the buckling loads, the layers tend to buckle with identical mode shapes. (Author)
