Abstract : The monograph identifies and examines some of the complexities of the process of nation-building. The forces and agents of change which interrelate as nations attempt to move from a traditional to a modern society are presented and discussed. The conclusion reached, which is based on personal judgment, is that for the developer of developing nations and for the student of development there are at least two prerequisites. First, a requirement to be aware of the multitude of variables which can understand and be able to exercise that degree of management of the interactions of these variables which will enable completion of the optimum national structure.
