Abstract : The infrared absorptions of water present in aqueous solutions were recorded using internal reflection techniques and a Fourier transform spectrometer. Dissolved salts cause changes in the structure of the solvent, and these changes make themselves felt as changes in the frequencies and intensities of the O-H stretching and deformation bands. The effects could be observed at concentrations as low as 0.1 M. (Author)
